Borrisokane Community College School Notes

PublicJobs.ie Competition.

We are delighted that thanks to the work of a Transition Year student, our school won the Munster Regional Prize in the iRevise School of the Year Competition. The project involved showcasing all the wonderful wellbeing opportunities our school provides for our students and staff, such as Wellbeing Walks, Wellfest, our Active Schools committee promoting a variety of sports to encourage fun movement breaks during Wellbeing & Guidance class for all Junior Cycle students. Our school will have Premium Access to the iRevise website for a year.

A group of creative Transition Year students made it to the National Final of ‘The Pitch’ – a competition run by PublicJobs.ie to highlight the diverse range of careers in the public sector. Transition Year students had the opportunity to work on their 30 second pitch during Career Guidance class, with our finalists presenting the work of translators and interpreters in the public sector.

TY Future Leaders Event

Our TY Future Leaders ran an amazing event this week.  There was a Quick Pick Challenge, Crossbar Challenge, Ball Wall Challenge, Long Puck and the Fiserv Challenge and 3rd and 1st year students got to participate in these events.  Thanks to Brian and Conor for Fiserv for joining us on the day and helping out.

A special word of thanks to Dan and Hazel Quirke who came and spoke to our Future Leaders about the Dillon Quirke Foundation.  All monies raised this week will be donated to the Foundation.

Well done to our Future Leaders, a huge amount of preparation and organisation goes into running these events but it was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

 

 

Wellread Award

Borrisokane Community College was awarded the PDST Readers for Life Award this week. This celebrates the work done to maintain the culture of reading in the school.

 

4B & 4C Trip to Kairos

Our 4B and 4C TY students travelled to Kairos this week. These were very successful days spent in the Kairos studios in Maynooth.  We look forward to seeing these productions of chat shows when they are returned to the school.

1st Year Camogie

Hard luck to our 1st Year camogie team who made it through to the semi finals of the 1st Year blitz in Thurles on Thursday.  The girls won their first two games but were beaten by a stronger side in the semi-final.  It was a great opportunity to get to play in this competition and we look forward to many more games from these girls over the next few years.

Wellfest Week.

Congratulations to all involved in Borrisokane Community College Wellfest Week. It was a week of participation and enjoyment for all.

Monday saw the whole school engaging in ‘Rock the Boat’ followed by a teachers vs students soccer game.

We held a 3 pointer Basketball challenge, a table tennis tournament ran all week, a Healthy Lunch Bake Off, Martial Arts and the students favourite ‘Dunking the Teachers’.

Well done to the Active Schools Group and our Future Leaders who were involved in running the various activities all week. It is great to see such leaders emerging in Transition Year.

 

 

SciFest at TUS Thurles

Well done to all students and teachers who participated in the SciFest Competition this week.

We won the ‘ Discover Space award’, The Boston Scientific Award, The Business Excellence Award, The Communications Award, The TUS Agricultural Science Award, and Ms. Hayes won the ESERO Ireland discover space teacher award.

It was a great opportunity to display our STEAM projects.

U15 Camogie

Well done to our U15 camogie team who after a tough battle against Borrisoleigh in the Tipperary Schools Semi-Final. 3-11 to 2-6. We now progress to play Carrick-on-Suir in the Final.
