College Awareness Week – CAW

This week our school took part in College Awareness Week 2022. CAW is a nationwide campaign promoting the benefits of going to college and helping all students to become college ready. As part of our College Awareness campaign we invited some excellent speakers to visit our school and showcase the courses, scholarships and student supports available at their respective colleges including Katie McAuliffe from the Arts faculty at the University of Limerick; Helena Doody from Shannon College of Hotel Management; Aoife Fitzpatrick from Carlow College; Peader Henehan from the Engineering faculty at the Technological University of Shannon Limerick; Caroline Duggan from the University of Galway; Ann MacBride from TUS Limerick and Jess Lawton from the South East Technological University at Waterford. In addition, our staff took part in a ‘Drop Everything and Share’ morning where they described their college journey and various progression routes to our students. Our first and second years took part in a poster competition titled ‘My Dream Job’ while Career classes took part in College Awareness Quizzes. Overall CAW 2022 was a great success at Borrisokane Community College and provided a rich opportunity for students to become college aware.

Take 1

This week in Borrisokane Community College students participated in activities as part of the Take 1 Initiative to highlight the Sustainable Development Goals – SDGs.

3E spent a class creating Blackout Poetry from an old novel. A great Human Rights Lesson and Kahoot from Amnesty for student to investigate Quatar as World Cup hosts was also held. On Friday a group of students travelled to a workshop on Climate Justice in Thurles.

Well done to all involved.

Junior A Camogie

Our Junior Camogie team played Doon in their last group game on Thursday in Borrisokane. The girls put in a great performance and came out on top winning 3-11 to 2-07.

It was a hard battle from the start, with Doon leading in the opening few minutes.  An excellent goal from Clodagh Shinners put the girls into the lead at half time. It was a very tight match but in the last 10 minutes Borrisokane turned the game with 2 goals from Amy Carroll and Emma Costello. They will now progress to the Munster semi-final and will play Colaiste Mhuire Ennis.

Scores: Ava Gaynor (0-4), Clodagh Shinners (1-4) Niamh Kelly (0-1) Eimear Heenan (0-1) Katie Moloney (0-1) Amy Carroll (1-0) and Emma Costello (1-0)
