Borrisokane CC crowned Junior Munster Champions

Borrisokane Community College defeated St. Marys High School, Midelton, Cork in a very tense Junior C Munster final at Drom and Inch GAA grounds on Saturday 28th January. Borrisokane got off to a great start thanks to a point from Laura Leenane and a well taken goal from Aine Slattery. With excellent hooking and blocking from all the backs especially Katie Costello, it put a stop to many St. Marys goal chances but eventually the Cork side found the net and came off the field at half time ahead by one point.

Coming back on to the field after half time, both sides were ready to fight for the title. Borrisokane made a few positional changes with Laura Leenane moving out to the half forward line and Laura Shinners settling back into full forward. Goal opportunities quickly opened up with two Shinners goals along with an Aoibheann O’ Meara goal. Borrisokane quickly increased their lead with two Laura Shinners frees. With great saves from Ella Carey, excellent defending from all the backs especially Aoife Sullivan, Lauren Ryan and Mikela McGrath and a final goal from Catherine Tighe, time was up and Borrisokane pulled through on a 5.4 to 3.4 scoreline.

Borrisokane now move onto the All-Ireland semi-final to play Ulster champions, St. Pius Magherafelt on the 18th February in Ballymena GAA Grounds, Antrim.
