Borrisokane Community College School Notes

 Geography Week

This week Nov 15th-19th was Geography Week in the school. Many activities took place for all year groups. First years took part in a poster competition based on climate change and the winners were Rickard Deasy, Amy Keyes, Faye Farrell, Anna Kennedy, Jessica O Meara.
2nd years also took part in the poster completion and the winner here was Hannah Farrell. 2nd and TY students completed a where in the world activity game.
3rd years took on a Who Wants to be a Millionaire Challenge and did some revision using a Kahoot game quiz.
TYs were busy presenting their projects on Natural Disasters and also took part in a geography walk in the locality where they identified land uses in the area and created collages of what they identified
5th years watched the movie “Volcano” following their study of plate tectonics and volcanic activity and also created a Tik Tok video visiting volcanoes around the world. They also completed a project based on volcanoes, earthquakes and fold mts which is part of their November assessment.
6th years are busy creating revision mind maps following the completion of regional geography and have also started work on their project work which is a coastal study.
It was a super week and well done to all who were involved and remember “you’re nowhere without geography”

Athletics

A great day of competition at the North Tipperary Cross Country.  The students pushed themselves through the gruelling course to make themselves and our school proud. Well done to everyone that competed.

Basketball

The U16 girls basketball team were unfortunately on the losing side of a thrilling match against Dunamase College this week., losing 30-33.  Well done to the girls for an amazing effort.

Our U16 boys had a huge win in their first match of the year v Killina on a score line of 59-12. Great shooting, defence and determination shown by all! Best of luck to the team in the rest of their games.
