Garda Youth Award

Congratulations to our Transition Year student Lorcan Flannery on receiving his Garda Youth Award at a ceremony in the Garda Training College, Templemore recently. The awards celebrate outstanding young people and Lorcan was recognised for his determination, resilience and leadership qualities. We are very proud of Lorcan’s achievements to date.

Gaeltacht

Bhain daltaí Idirbhliana an‑taitneamh as trí lá iontach ar Oileán Acla, áit ar fhan siad le mná tí Choláiste Acla. Cuireadh fáilte roimh an tírdhreach álainn agus an cúpla focal a chleachtadh agus  ghlac gach duine leis na himeachtaí agus na dúshláin go fonnmhar. Bhain na daltaí taitneamh as siúlóid 7 ciliméadar, ag tabhairt cuairte ar iar‑áit chónaithe Ghráinne Mhaol, chomh maith le go leor gníomhaíochtaí uiscebhunaithe ar nós léim ó aillte, surfáil agus cúrsa constaicí sa phortach. Is beatha teanga í á labhairt!

Active Schools Flag

This year’s Transition Year Active Schools Flag class enjoyed their Annual Hike up Moylussa on Tuesday May 5th . This has become an end of year ritual and was a great way to end a fantastic year. We enjoyed bringing the Flag to the top this year!

Gaisce Walk

Eight fifth year and thirty two Transition Year Gaisce students completed their Adventure Journey in the Burren, Co. Clare on Thursday May 7th. The fifth years, who were working towards the silver award walked a total of 50km over two days, with the Transition Years walking 26km in glorious sunshine. They enjoyed the wonderful scenery including the Flaggy Shore and New Quay, followed by a stay in the Burren Adventure Centre. Well done to all these students on their great achievement.

Badminton

There was a great end to the badminton season in Borrisokane Community College with the singles round robin competition held over the last few weeks. Well done to all who took part and a special congratulations to those students who won the first year singles, the second year singles, the Junior girls and the senior girls/ boys competition. Training will continue in September!

Junk Kouture

Congratulations to the two groups from Borrisokane Community College who participated in the Junk Kouture Dublin City Final on Wednesday May 6th.
‘Danger on the Dairy’ by Ella and Julie focused on farm safety. The design was made from scrap pieces of bale wrap, meal bags, wire, wool and straw. The bold shapes and print were designed to stop people in their tracks and think about the everyday reality of dairy life and the serious dangers that exist alongside it.
‘From Bottles to Blossoms’ by Ciara and Louise celebrated the transformative power of sport and its ability to empower lives. The dress was crafted from over 800 Lucozade bottles that had been cut, melted, sprayed, drilled and pinned. The floral headpiece drew inspiration from Frida Kahlo, whose artwork was deeply influenced by her resilience and perseverance.
