Borrisokane Community College Notes – 6/3/2026

 

U17 Hurling  

Congratulations to the U17 boys on their 2 – 8 to 1 – 7 win over CBS Clonmel in the U17C County Final on Thursday March 5th  in Toomevara. The boys fought hard in miserable conditions to retain the title they won last year, led by captain Alan Burke.   

   

 

Junior Girls Soccer  

The Junior Girls soccer team showed incredible determination and teamwork to overcome St Mary’s Newport with a fantastic 4–1 win in the Tipperary League on Thursday March 5th. This victory coincided with Women in Sport Week, which celebrates the strength, talent, and passion of girls in sport.  

Sports Science Workshop  

Borrisokane Community College female P.E. students attended an excellent Sports Science Workshop in TUS Thurles on Friday February 27th. They experienced the impressive facilities and gained information on the sports related courses on offer,  including the new PE and Business course starting next September. 

 

Agricultural Science  

5th Year Agricultural Science students had a brilliant and engaging day at Pallaskenry Agricultural College with Agri Aware’s Farm Walk & Talk on Friday February 27th.  Students gained first-hand experience and deeper understanding of key agricultural practices, which will be a huge advantage as they begin preparing their Leaving Cert Agricultural Science IIS project for 2026.  

 

English Trip  

The 2nd and 3rd year Ordinary level English students attended a production of their studied play Blood Brothers at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre on Wednesday March 4th . This musical was enjoyed by all.  

Transition Year Musical  

The Transition Year musical  Beauty and the Beast will be staged on Tuesday March 24th and Wednesday March 25th at 8p.m. in the school complex, with a matinee for the local primary schools on March 24th.  We hope you will “Be Our Guests” for this amazing show. Tickets are available from Monday 9th March from the school office. 

Literacy Week  

Literacy Week took place in the school, an opportunity for students to celebrate reading and  experience literacy activities. 
Classrooms paused for Drop Everything and Read, Transition Year students worked on digital advertisements for their musical, 6th Year LCA students focused on haikus and 1st Year students created blackout poetry. 1C have been busy creating the many faces of Shakespeare, working on script writing, and students of all years enjoying games in the library. Third year students took part in Literacy Week activities along the school walkway.

Well done to those students who entered the poetry competition – “If These Walls Could Speak” and the Guess the Teacher challenge.  

Steps Challenge  

Well done to all students and staff who took part in the Steps Challenge, organised by the Transition Year Active Schools Flag class . It was lovely to see students being active and using our walkway. Congratulations to the winning teams.
