Young Scientist

Congratulations to our Transition Year Science students who represented the school in the Stripe Young Scientist in the RDS in Dublin.

Among the projects entered was Better Breeds for Beef Production. Another group of TY students entered with “Skin safe, Sea Safe”, an evidence based investigation into the efficacy of regular and reef safe sunscreen and their impact on aquatic ecosystems. Additionally, a TY group entered with their project ‘Sexless Seeds: How these crops could soon transform Irish food on the market’.

The groups met with Ryan O’ Meara T.D., Stephen Butler Teagasc, IASTA representative and Professor Rohan to discuss the projects, after President Catherine Connolly officially opened the event. The students were also interviewed by RTE, Dr. Fidelma Butler, genetics expert Geraldine Butler and Agriland. Well done to the students and their teachers.
