Christmas at Borrisokane Community College
Our students and staff enjoyed the festive spirit over the past few weeks.
Students from the ASD Centre took part in a decoration making workshop on Monday December 8th, where students made beaded stars and painted wooden decorations, displaying creativity and enjoying the afternoon. They also enjoyed a trip to Limerick on Thursday December 11th.
The music students from 1st to 6th year attended Bushy Park Nursing Home for carol singing, while a Traditional Music Christmas party was held in the Music room. A Christmas Jumper Day was held on December 12th, which was well supported by staff and students, raising 600 euro for the St Vincent de Paul.
Our Future Leaders classes organised a Christmas quiz with 1st years and a Christmas soccer blitz on Tuesday December 16th.
The TY Young Scientist group would like to say a big thanks to everyone who participated in their raffle on December 12th. The money raised is going towards an environmental project of planting wild flowers and building a bug hotel on the school premises. Over 500 euro was raised. Thank you to the Parents Association who provided the hampers for the raffle.
Trip to Leinster House
Our Student Council and 5th year students had a tour of Leinster House on Monday December 8th, where they gained a great insight into our Republic’s history and democratic process.
Leaving Certificate Applied
Thank you to the members of Borrisokane Fire Station who facilitated a very informative question and answer session with 5As in the school on Monday December 8th.
6A had a fantastic day at Wilde Chocolate On Wednesday December 9th as part of Hotel Catering and Tourism. They enjoyed a great talk on all things chocolate including chocolate production in the factory. They also got to make their own chocolate bars!
5th and 6th Year LCA students travelled to the National Construction Training Centre in Mount Lucas, Co. Offaly on Tuesday December 16th. Students learned about various traineeships and apprenticeships on offer and even got to experience driving some heavy machinery using driving simulators.
Construction Studies
Construction Studies 5th and 6th year student groups travelled to SOLAS Limerick Training Centre to complete an NZEB (nearly zero emissions buildings) training course on Monday and Tuesday December 9th and 10th. Students observed and practiced modern building techniques as well as gaining insight into potential future apprenticeship courses.
Architects in Schools
TY and 5th year students completed – Day 2 of the ‘Architects in Schools’ programme recently, where they interactively discovered structural engineering as well as presenting incredibly creative models of their Outdoor Classroom designs. A huge thank you to local architect Selene Murphy for her tremendous work delivering an engaging and enjoyable programme.
Gold Gaisce Award
Three of our past pupils, Ruairi and Senan O’ Brolchain and Niamh Patterson were presented with their Gold Gaisce Award by our new President, Catherine Connolly. They began their Gaisce Journey while in Transition Year at Borrisokane Community College. Congratulations on your fantastic achievement.
