BCC-TY-Killary-Trip 2025

Borrisokane Community College Notes – 26/9/25

T.Y. Killary Trip

Our Transition Years students travelled to Killary Adventure Centre on Wednesday September 24th to partake in three days of activities. They took part in many group challenges that foster teamwork, fun and friendship. These include the turf challenge, the high ropes and the climbing wall. Students were also ziplining, raft building, gorge walking and enjoying games in the evenings. Many thanks to the teachers who organised and accompanied students on an enjoyable and memorable trip.

TY Gaelbhratach

Gaelbhratach, the Conradh na Gaeilge initiative for schools to promote Irish outside of the classroom in post primary schools, hosted a training day on Tuesday September 23rd. This was attended by three of our Transition Year students. The role of Cathaoirleach, Rúnaí and Oifigeach Poiblí were discussed and our students collaborated and brainstormed with other schools in the region. This is our third year participating in the scheme. Is iontach an deis é. Beidh na himeachtaí ag tosú go luath agus beidh an Coiste ag fógairt na himeachtaí go míosúil.

6th Year Geography Trip

6th Year Geography students completed their Geographical Investigation in Lahinch on Thursday September 25th. They observed, investigated and recorded coastal processes and landforms.

Student Council

Congratulations to those students elected by their peers to represent them on the Student Council. The first meeting will take place next week in school, where initiatives for the year ahead will be discussed.

Boys Basketball

U16 & U19 Boys Basketball teams suffered defeat in their first league match against a very strong Portlaoise side with lots of experience. Despite this, they played hard throughout the game and never gave up.

Senior Camogie

Hard luck to our senior camogie team who unfortunately lost to St Mary’s Midleton on Monday September 22nd. The girls had a brilliant first half showing great skills and determination but Midleton took the lead in the second half. The girls worked extremely hard throughout the whole game. Overall it was a great day out and the girls are looking forward to their next game.

Congratulations

There was delight among our school community as 6th year student, Aidan O’ Hara, claimed a gold medal at the World Darts Federation World Cup in the Open Youth Pairs on Friday morning. Aidan and his teammate edged a thrilling decider 5-4, averaging 73.96, at the Kintex Hall in Seoul. Congratulations to Aidan on his fantastic achievements. We wish him well as he competes in the Boys Single Final on Saturday.
